Student field placement experience
Given the importance of interprofessional collaboration in improving the quality and effectiveness of health care, and increasing access to specialized care, it is essential for healthcare students to learn about interprofessional care during their training. Interprofessional education can enable healthcare students to gain knowledge of other health professionals, facilitate the development of professional identity, shape students’ personal practice, and aid the development of competencies in delivering quality care (Dubouloz, Savard, Burnett et Guitad, 2009).
With this in mind, the University of Ottawa, under the leadership of the Academic Health Council, is committed to developing interprofessional education for students in health sciences, medicine, and social work. The establishment of the Interprofessional Clinic, an innovative and structuring project, is one of the fundamental pillars for achieving this objective.
